New York Apple Association, Inc.

Julia Stewart was named New York Apple Association, Inc.’s (NYAA) director of public relations and spokesperson in 2013. Her responsibilities include planning and executing media outreach activities to promote New York state apples, representing the association to consumer and trade media, and providing strategic communications counsel to NYAA senior management.

Stewart’s expertise includes strategic communications planning, key message development, media relations, and online and social media. She also has extensive issue and crisis communications experience.

Well known in the apple and produce industries, Stewart previously directed public relations for both U.S. Apple Association and Produce Marketing Association (PMA). She also previously worked as a crisis communications specialist for a prestigious Washington, D.C. consultancy, and in communications for associations serving the U.S. forest products industry. As owner of Clarity Communications LLC, Stewart has consulted for numerous other apple and produce industry organizations, including PMA, Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) and Pear Bureau Northwest.

While at USApple, Stewart helped found and manage of the U.S. apple industry’s promotional nutrition research program, which resulted in 250 million media impressions valued at $8 million in four years. She also created the “Apples for Santa” campaign, which won a PBH National Excellence Award for nutrition communications. While working for the American Forest Council, she supported a forest products industry communications program that won a PRSA Silver Anvil award.

Stewart earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia.
