TAFFY APPLE PIZZA

INGREDIENTS

1 1/4 can (21 oz.) apple pie filling or topping
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg, optional
1  cup quick or old fashioned oats
1/2 cup chopped peanuts
1/2 cup caramel-flavored topping
Vanilla ice cream, optional
Additional caramel topping and chopped peanuts, optional

DIRECTIONS

Heat oven to 350° F. Grease 14” pizza pan.

In large bowl, beat together butter or margarine and sugar. Add combined flour, cinnamon, baking soda and nutmeg; mix until well blended. Mix in oats and peanuts. Reserve ¾ cup of this oat mixture; set aside.

Press remaining oat mixture evenly onto bottom of prepared pizza pan to form crust. Pour apple filling over crust; spread evenly to within 1/2" of edge. Drizzle evenly with caramel topping; sprinkle with reserved oat mixture.

Bake 25-30 minutes or until crust is golden brown; cool slightly. To serve, cut into wedges. Serve warm topped with ice cream and additional caramel topping, if desired. Garnish with additional chopped peanuts, if desired.

Variation
Substitute greased 13” x 9” baking pan for pizza pan. Assemble recipe as directed. Bake as directed, increasing baking time to 30-35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool slightly and cut into bars.
