In apple farming, a common question is “How is the crop this year?” As a result of years of experience and dealing with the ups and downs of yearly production, and dealing with good and bad weather, growers have learned to respond both cautiously, while trying to be optimistic. An old Yiddish saying says it best, G.W.W.P., which means ‘God Willing and Weather Permitting!”

Ample rain and warming days are Mother Nature’s ingredients for tasty, crunchy and nutritious New York McIntosh apples. In approximately 75 days these Mini-Macs will have matured into juicy, plump, red apples, ripe for the picking.

Now that the June drop has passed, as you can see from this picture, the apples are nicely placed on the branch, not to crowed, but just right so they can grow to the optimum size without forcing another apple to drop. Growers like to say that this is perfect spacing for a perfect crop. These McIntosh apples are growing on top of the rolling hills south of Syracuse, NY. With a little help from above, and lots of grower attention, NY apples, across the state are growing nicely. Check back in a few weeks to see our next update.
