Dear Apple Enthusiasts, Apples, so familiar to every child, are full of potential for discovery and study by curious students of all ages! The accompanying packet is an integrated approach to the exploration of apples. The emphasis is on students constructing knowledge concerning the apple’s development, characteristics and how it fits into American society. Recently, we have followed the feedback from teachers as to the amount and type of materials we provide in the kit. We now offer one teachers kit that is applicable for grades K-6. We hope you and your students enjoy it. These activities, based on New York State curricula, can be done on many academic levels. Single activities may be incorporated into subject area units or organized into a theme unit on apples. Knowledge gained, however, is always more meaningful when it is shared. Apple Country® activities can be great preparation for an apple or harvest festival. Displays and information booths, an apple buffet, apple sales, apple variety sample stations, etc. can be coordinated into a teaching opportunity for your students and a fun-filled learning experience for other classes, family members or the community.
