Taffy Apple Pizza

This recipe makes what you can call a caramel apple crisp pizza! Yum!

Ingredients

For 12 Serving(s)

  • 1 1/4 can (21 oz.) apple pie filling or topping
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg, optional
  • 1 cup quick or old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 cup caramel-flavored topping
  •   Vanilla ice cream, optional
  •   Additional caramel topping and chopped peanuts, optional

Cooking time:   30m

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350° F. Grease 14” pizza pan.
  2. In large bowl, beat together butter or margarine and sugar. Add combined flour, cinnamon, baking soda and nutmeg; mix until well blended. Mix in oats and peanuts. Reserve ¾ cup of this oat mixture; set aside.
  3. Press remaining oat mixture evenly onto bottom of prepared pizza pan to form crust. Pour apple filling over crust; spread evenly to within 1/2″ of edge. Drizzle evenly with caramel topping; sprinkle with reserved oat mixture.
  4. Bake 25-30 minutes or until crust is golden brown; cool slightly. To serve, cut into wedges. Serve warm topped with ice cream and additional caramel topping, if desired. Garnish with additional chopped peanuts, if desired.
  5. Variation: Substitute greased 13” x 9” baking pan for pizza pan. Assemble recipe as directed. Bake as directed, increasing baking time to 30-35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool slightly and cut into bars.
